Taxi robbery case comes to dead end, Crown stays charge
A man accused of pointing a gun at a Prince Albert taxi driver, before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money and a cellphone, has been told he is free to go.
The charge against Franklin Mercredi was stayed Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. Crown prosecutor Andreanne Dube told paNOW based on the evidence before the court, there was not a substantial likelihood of a conviction.
The robbery happened in November 2019, and was one of five similar incidents throughout the year. Mercredi however was only charged in connection to one and entered a not guilty plea last July.
The cab driver was not physically hurt.
