UPDATE: In an update Monday afternoon Saskatchewan Polytechnic said it continues to work with external experts and law enforcement to determine the extent of the security incident and to safely restore systems. The updated statement said, in part, Sask Polytech has begun the remediation process.

“Today, employees have been instructed to install an adaptive, next-generation antivirus and endpoint detection and response software. There is no reason to believe any personal information has been compromised at this point.”

Classes at Saskatchewan Polytechnic have been cancelled for the coming days after the institution experienced some form of cyber hack.

In a media release Sunday night it said they had experienced a cybersecurity incident which has affected its systems. The institute is taking this matter very seriously and is working closely with industry experts to minimize the extent of the impact.

According to the statement there will be no online or applied, in-person classes November 2-4 while Sask Polytech’s IT Services continue working with outside experts to restore systems in order of priority; the first priority being to restore the online learning environment for students. The statement did not give details regarding what had been compromised.

Students and employees using personal devices are safely able to access limited services through direct web access including: email, Zoom, Office 365 and video streaming.

The institute continues to assess the extent of the cybersecurity incident with external experts and law enforcement. There is no reason to conclude at this point that any personal information has been compromised. Sask Polytech is committed to timely and transparent communications. Additional information is being shared at campusupdate.ca as it is available.
