Positive COVID-19 case at Carlton Comprehensive Public High School

Nov 2, 2020 | 12:49 PM

UPDATE: The Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division issued an updated release stating public health conducted its investigation and concluded the affected Grade 10 class can return to in-school learning.

Those who were deemed close contacts of the individual were placed on a mandatory 14-day isolation.

“We are asking that all students and staff self-monitor for symptoms and if symptoms present to isolate and call 811,” the release said.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has identified a positive COVID-19 case at Carlton Comprehensive Public High School.

In a release, the school division said it was informed of the positive case this morning. It’s unclear whether the person who tested positive was a student or staff members. Due to privacy concerns, the individual has been identified solely as “a member of the school community.”

“Our thoughts and get-well wishes are extended to this member of our school community and surrounding family; we hope recovery is swift,” the division release stated.

The health authority continues to assess the case, provide contact tracing, and communicate with all close contacts with the infected person. Students who were impacted by the case are required to isolate until further notice and continue with remote learning.

The school will remain open for in-person classes with students not required to isolate.

“The school’s COVID Response Plan contains many important measures, processes and protocols that add layers of protection for students and staff,” the release stated. “School personnel will continue to be informed and guided by Saskatchewan Health Authority as they manage the case.”

To minimize the risk of the virus from spreading, the division urged students, parents and community members to continue to:

  • be diligent in performing the daily health screening and self-monitoring
  • stay home if ill
  • call the HealthLine at 811 if exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms
  • practice proper hand hygiene
  • maintain physical distancing as much as possible
  • wear a mask when appropriate, and
  • do whatever we can to keep each other safe.
