COVID case at WP Sandin school in Shellbrook

Oct 30, 2020 | 8:23 AM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has identified a positive COVID-19 case in an individual at WP Sandin Public High School in Shellbrook.

A media release from the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division late Thursday night said “ our thoughts and get-well wishes are extended to this member of our school community and surrounding family; we hope recovery is swift.”

The release added the school division was informed Thursday evening of the positive COVID-19 test result and communication has been shared with the classrooms/cohorts, the connected staff, as well as the school community. The Health Authority will continue to assess the case as they provide contact tracing and communications with all close contacts. The students and staff impacted by this case are now required to isolate until further notice and the learning program will continue remotely for those students affected. Due to privacy concerns, further details of the case will not be shared.

WP Sandin will remain open for in-person classes for all students that are not required to isolate. The school’s COVID Response Plan contains many important measures, processes and protocols that add layers of protection for students and staff. School personnel will continue to be informed and guided by Saskatchewan Health Authority as they manage this case.

We all share responsibility to minimize the risk of COVID transmission and the division appreciates the support that students, parents and community members have demonstrated. Despite the challenges, it is important that students, families and community members continue to:

· be diligent in performing the daily health screening and self-monitoring,

· stay home if ill,

· call the HealthLine at 811 if exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms,

· practice proper hand hygiene,

· maintain physical distancing as much as possible,

· wear a mask when appropriate, and,

· do whatever we can to keep each other safe.

The division is thankful to have the support of the Saskatchewan Health Authority’ local public health team. They have provided expert advice and strong support for our dedicated staff as we manage the pandemic in our communities.
