Buckland Bridge set to close on Monday

People who rely on the Buckland Bridge to get to and from work, will have to find an alternate route beginning Monday.

The bridge is scheduled for replacement in the next couple years, but due to the North Saskatchewan River’s ice damming this past spring, the water backed up over the rails causing sizable ice chunks to collide into the bridge, compromising the structure further.

According to a news release from the Rural Municipality of Buckland, council decided to close all traffic on the bridge until the road lift and bridge replacement are complete. The decision was made with consideration to the bridge’s questionable condition as well as the safety of the public.

“We aim to have this project completed and open by the end of the next construction season,” the statement said.
