Sask. Party to win fourth straight majority government

Oct 26, 2020 | 9:13 PM

SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan Party under leader Scott Moe will form its fourth straight majority government.

The party has taken enough of the province’s 61 seats in the legislature to win the provincial election and secure the majority victory.

It is Moe’s first victory as party leader and premier.

He took over the top job after he won a leadership vote in 2018 that was prompted by former premier Brad Wall’s retirement.

It was Wall who first led the Sask. Party to power with a win in the 2007 election.

The party is the longest-serving government of those currently in power in Canada.

Moe also held onto his seat of Rosthern-Shellbrook.

Moe, who is 47, was first elected to the rural constituency in the 2011 vote and won again in 2016.

Moe held a number of positions in Wall’s cabinet, including as environment and advanced education minister.

He campaigned on the question of which party voters trusted to help the province’s economy recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
