Murder north of Shellbrook

Ahtahkakoop RCMP are reporting a murder although it’s not yet clear exactly when it happened.

On Thursday, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North and officers from the Ahtahkakoop RCMP Detachment attended the scene of a suspicious sudden death at a rural property approximately 32 kilometres north of Shellbrook, along Highway 240.

The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Bradley John Schmalz, a resident of the RM of Shellbrook.

According to a media release issued by RCMP Monday morning, Schmalz’s death is being handled as a homicide, which investigators believe to have occurred sometime between Monday, Oct.12, and Thursday, Oct.15.

An autopsy will be conducted today in Saskatoon to further examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Schmalz’s death.

Officers are encouraging anyone who may have information concerning this investigation, including anyone who may have been in contact with Bradley John Schmalz leading up to October 12 through 15, to contact the Ahtahkakoop RCMP at 306-747-2606.
