Bears back, beat Battlefords in preseason action

Oct 18, 2020 | 4:05 PM

It’s been a while since the Prince Albert Northern Bears stepped on the ice against another team.

They finally got that opportunity on Sunday, beating the Battlefords Sharks 5-2 on the road in Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League action.

Paris Oleksyn, who led the Bears in goals and points last year, scored the Bears’ first goal of the year on the power play in the first period. She ended the game with a pair of goals. Fellow veteran forward Haley Kicia also finished with two goals. Kailey Ledoux finished with a goal and an assist.

Rhea Peterson, Taylor Leitch and Kiara Stewart all had an assist.

Goaltenders Janae Neufeld and Brooke Archer split the game in goal. Neufeld stopped all eight shots she faced, before Brooke Archer made 19 saves on 21 shots.

Madison Guitard, who is from Prince Albert, scored the Sharks’ first goal. Madison Glynn had the other.

The Bears will play their second and final exhibition game next Sunday against the Saskatoon Stars at the Art Hauser Centre.
