Swimming lesson registration now open in Prince Albert

Oct 16, 2020 | 2:00 PM

After a nearly seven month hiatus due to the pandemic, swimming lessons are back in Prince Albert.

Aquatic recreation programmer Lauren Haubrich told paNOW staff at the Frank J Dunn pool are excited to be starting up again.

“It’s really important to make sure we’re offering lessons to the community,” Haubrich said. “Even children that know how to swim might need a refresher, and I think that’s important for parents and children to know, [swimming] is a skill that you definitely need to practice as well as learn.”

To adhere to COVID-19 guidelines and recommendations, a number of modifications have been made, including smaller class sizes and no contact between instructors and students. In fact, instructors will be on the deck except for demonstrations.

For beginner swimmers, this means they must be accompanied by an adult during the class.

“The parents will be in the water helping and doing everything the instructor would normally due in the water with the child,” Haubrich said.

Swimming lesson registration is now open on the City of Prince Albert’s website.

Haubrich said going forward, staff will look to return lessons to “a more traditional format,” when possible. Like all things dependent on the pandemic, the timeline for that is up in the air.
