MELFORT, Sask. – Western Canadian Wheat Growers (WCWG) have decided to cancel its fall convention.

WCWG President Gunter Jochum said the event scheduled for Nov. 24 and 25 in Regina was to be the organizations 50th anniversary celebration.

“We have reviewed the health and safety regulations for group gatherings and determined that it is in everyone’s best interest to cancel this year’s convention,” Jochum said in a media release. “This is very unfortunate, as we are celebrating 50 years of advocating for Western Canada’s wheat farmers.”

All convention registrants will be receiving an email outlining the refund process.

As an alternative to the convention, a series of webinars will be offered for members and guests.

Ontario dairy operations will benefit from the federal government Emergency Processing Fund.

Kawartha Dairy and Mariposa Dairy will receive $85,000 to enhance worker safety in their facilities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Emergency Processing Fund will provide up to $77.5 million to help food processors safeguard the health and safety of workers and their families due to the impacts of the pandemic.

Tomorrow is World Egg Day.

It’s a day to celebrate the small but mighty egg, and the 1,100 Canadian egg farmers who produce them.

A recent study found 92 per cent of Canadians feel it is important the eggs they purchase are produced in Canada. All Canadian eggs sold in stores feature the Canada Grade A symbol or a ‘Product of Canada’ label.

The Canada Grade A symbol assures the eggs have met the standard required by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The event also celebrates everyone in the food system who stepped up during the pandemic to ensure the deliver of eggs to Canadians.
