SHA declares multi-jurisdictional community outbreak, believed to originate in P.A.

Oct 7, 2020 | 2:16 PM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) has declared a multi-jurisdictional community transmitted outbreak which contact tracing investigators believe was started in Prince Albert.

According to a media release, Medical Health Officer Dr. Khami Chokani officially declared the outbreak today, on Wednesday.

The contact tracing investigation involves over 100 people from around the province, according to the SHA. The outbreak has led back to a series of Full Gospel Outreach events in P.A. which took place between Sept. 14 and Oct. 4.

The SHA said by email to paNOW.com that six people have tested positive since they became aware of the first case on Sunday from the Full Gospel Outreach events.

“Additional contact tracing is underway and we that number is expected to increase,” the SHA said.

Administrators are calling it an outbreak due to the various individuals with close contact to many areas around the province.

The SHA is telling the public who were at these events on the dates to immediately self-isolate and contact Healthline 811. Those who are isolating should continue to do so until receiving an assessment from the public health unit.
