Saskatchewan Country Closeup highlights homegrown talent

Oct 4, 2020 | 8:00 AM

A new segment on Jim Pattison Broadcast Group (JPBG) radio station sites in Saskatchewan will help promote local artists throughout the province.

Saskatchewan Country Closeup is a digitally syndicated feature that can be found streaming on on CKBI in Prince Albert, CJVR in Melfort , CJNB in North Battleford and CJNS in Meadow Lake.

Showcasing country artists and their music, the pages will be updated every week with a new post featuring an embedded interview and song paired with a short write up profiling the provincial talent. CKBI Program Director Danny Kid said the idea was born from a pure love of Saskatchewan country music and a desire to give artists a platform to show off homegrown talent.

“The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group is excited to connect our radio audiences across the province to music made right here at home,” Kid said.

Saskatchewan Country Closeup will be hosted by passionate JPBG country radio hosts Matt Ryan, Cal Gratton and Cristy Beggs who all live and breathe country music in their communities and greater Saskatchewan.

Beggs, who hosts the morning show on Saskatchewan Country CKBI said, “I’m so excited we’re doing this. There are so many amazing voices in our provinces that are just getting started right up to the ones who play on the international stages. I know Cal, Matt and myself are thrilled to bring their stories and songs to everyone.”

“Getting to know the artists and where they’re from, their stories – it’s a huge part of why I love what I do for a living,” she added. “And then getting to celebrate their accomplishments along with them is exciting.”

Saskatchewan artists and labels representing local artists who would like to have their new music considered for Saskatchewan Country Closeup should contact JPBG’s Danny Kid at danny.kid@jpbg.ca.

This digital feature will be promoted on-air on all four JPBG country radio stations in the province.
