Construction to hit the ground on P.A.’s 15th Street this fall

Prince Albert residents will start seeing construction taking place on 15th St. E in the coming weeks.

Planning manager for the City of Prince Albert, Craig Guidinger says the location is perfect for the development of business in the area.

“Fifteenth Street is obviously a main corridor in Prince Albert, and is meant for commercial development,” Guidinger told paNOW. “With the addition of Peavey Mart, it adds an additional 30,000 square feet of convenient shopping for residents.”

The city expects this project will lead to future expansion in the area.

“Seeing an anchor tenant like that go in, (Peavey Mart) will be a big boost not only for the city, but for that site as well,” Guidinger said. “There will be a lot of leftover space on the east side of that lot.

“I think over the next few years you’ll see a lot of interest on that site and a lot of opportunity for retail space, restaurant space, or other commercial opportunities.”

Elise Hildebrandt, CEO of Prince Albert, and District Chamber of Commerce says development will a good move for P.A. residents.

“As a shopper coming into the city it is definitely a benefit putting all of our stuff together,” Hildebrandt said. “Fifteenth Street has a lot of our business and it’s really great being able to go to the next store and it just be, ‘hop, hop, hop.’

“It is nice to see the building being built with a purpose. It’s not based on hope they build and then they will come, we know that Peavey Mart is taking that on.”

Although construction will take off soon, a finished product is not expected this year.

“I believe they’re not looking to finish construction until next summer or fall,” Guidinger explained. “I know they want to get as much work done as possible in the fall here.”

Another traffic light is expected to be installed at the site although not immediately.

“It’s not really needed until the site is developed so I do not expect to see that right away,” Guidinger said. “We’ll work with the developer to make sure that is done at the most opportune time.”

paNOW reached out to the owner of Peavey Mart in P.A. as well as the land developers, but they did not respond to our requests for comment.
