Land purchased for proposed youth home

A local group that wants to build a home for youth transitioning out of foster care in is one step closer to making that dream a reality.

The Girardi Foundation has purchased land in the West Flat area of the city where it hopes to build Harley’s House, executive director David Girardi told paNOW.

Girardi said it feels great to have completed the purchase at 1316 13th Street W. and to be entering phase two of their fundraising efforts. He said $350,000 of their $1.5 million fundraising goal has been secured so far and gave a special thank you to Boucher Entertainment.

“I’m really excited about this project,” Girardi said. “It’s something the city really needs.”

Girardi explained the organization hopes to break ground in 2021, depending on how fundraising efforts go. Harley’s House will be six-unit, semi-independent living home for youth aged 18 to 21.

Coming off their Rustic Market event last week, Girardi explained the foundation is in the process of organizing several more fundraisers in Prince Albert. They also have steak night planned for October in Regina to benefit the project.
