New name for Yorkton’s largest arena

Sep 21, 2020 | 1:01 PM

While there aren’t as many on-ice activities at Yorkton’s Gallagher Centre this year, there’s been lots of activity going on to put up new signage.

The arena known as Farrell Agencies Arena has been renamed the Westland Arena. This follows the purchase of Farrell Agencies by Westland insurance on June 1, 2019.

Yorkton Mayor Bob Maloney said, “We are pleased to welcome Westland Insurance Group to our Gallagher Centre sponsorship family and we look forward to continuing the excellent working relationship we have experienced with Farrell Agencies since 2006. Our arena is one of the most important assets in our community and is integral to the lives of so many of our residents.”

“Westland Insurance is excited to be part of the Yorkton community and to continue our relationship with the Gallagher Centre and its newly named Westland Arena. We are looking forward to continuing our involvement in the community and surrounding area,” said Tim Mackie, Executive Vice President of Operations for Westland Insurance.

Westland Insurance also made a $25,000 donation to the Saskatchewan Food Banks earlier this year.

Westland Insurance (www.westlandinsurance.ca) is Canada’s largest Canadian-owned insurance brokerage. It was established in 1980 in Ladner, B.C., and has over 120 offices throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Westland is considered a leader in home, business, auto and farm insurance.

Jason Farrell of Farrell Agencies continues to oversee the operations of Westland Insurance in Saskatchewan.

“Joining Westland strengthens our position in the market, and it has allowed us to better serve our clients with a broader range of expertise and products. Westland’s core values are very much aligned with the culture we have built at Farrell Agencies over the past 45 years,” said Farrell.

Watch for further information on the grand opening of Westland Arena to come this fall!
