Leon Draisaitl wins big at the 2020 NHL Awards

Prince Albert Raiders alumnus Leon Draisaitl is the winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Award. The announcement was made at the 2020 NHL Awards on Monday night.

According to a media release, Draisaitl led the NHL in scoring with 110 points (43 goals, 67 assists) in 71 games to win the Art Ross Trophy.

The Ted Lindsay Award is presented to “the most outstanding player in the NHL” as voted by members of the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA). Draisaitl is the first German-born recipient in the history of the award.

Draisaitl earned 91 first-place votes out of 170 ballots cast, as the first German-born winner of the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

Draisaitl was also named to the NHL’s First All-Star Team for the first time in his career.

Draisaitl was drafted second overall in the 2012 CHL Import Draft. He played for the Raiders from 2012-2014, playing 128 games. Draisaitl scored 59 goals and added 104 assists over his two years in P.A. and was selected third overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2014 NHL Draft.
