Doubling down on community fundraiser

Prince Albert’s Rose Garden Hospice Association will be receiving a nice boost to their fundraising due to the generosity of a few local business owners.

Owners of the Tim Hortons franchise in P.A., Ed Zaparaniuk and Cheryl Sander will be matching the proceeds raised from the sales of smile cookies at their locations.

“100 per cent of the proceeds go towards the Rose Garden Hospice and we’re going to match the final amount once we total it up on Monday morning,” Zaparaniuk told paNOW.

Cheryl Sander is hoping to be pushed by her community.

“I’m all about this,” Sander said enthusiastically. “We’re going to match all of the proceeds up to $50,000.”

Malcolm Jenkins, owner of the local Canadian Tire pledged to make the same donation.

“We’ve made a commitment for $500,000 to the hospice,” Jenkins said. “Our pledge was we would allocate our donation along side other events to enhance visibility.”

Donations towards the new hospice are currently at $2.4 million out of the $4 million needed and all three donating parties are hoping this fundraiser will help get construction underway as soon as possible.

“Tim Hortons will be very helpful in doing that because they have such a wide audience with happy customers, so it will give exposure to the cause which is a very good thing,” Jenkins said.

Tim Hortons smile cookies are on sale at all locations across Canada, with all proceeds from the $1 cookies being put towards different charities and foundations.
