Agriculture Roundup for Wednesday September 16, 2020

Sep 16, 2020 | 10:07 AM

Do More Agriculture Foundation (DMA) and Farm Credit Canada (FCC) have wrapped up a successful second year of delivering mental health programs.

DMA executive director Adelle Stewart said roughly 450 people across 24 communities attended one of the two training sessions.

“We’re proud to offer programs to the agriculture industry that help to increase mental health literacy, help to change the conversation about mental health and build capacity within families and communities,” Stewart said.

The program is aimed at educating community members in identifying mental health concerns and how to provide initial support to producers coping with difficult or unfortunate circumstances.

Canola producers in Alberta and Saskatchewan have an opportunity to speak on behalf of their peers.

Nominations are open for both development commissions where representatives formulate policy and give farmers an opportunity to have a say on a wide range of issues.

Alberta Canola divides the province into 12 districts, with a producer director elected to represent the canola growers within that region. Elections are being held in regions two, five, eight and 11. Successful producers would serve a three-year term.

Papers for a director position must be filed at the Alberta Canola office on or before Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. Information and nomination packages are available here.

Saskatchewan canola producers have until Friday to submit nomination papers for the SaskCanola board of directors.

Four of the eight-member board positions are now available with the successful candidates beginning their four-year term in January 2021.

Anyone interested in running can download the nomination package.

Applications must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Sept. 18.
