Four local golfers are able to stake their claim as 2019 Club Champion at Cooke Municipal Golf Course.

Over the weekend, the annual club championship brought 50 golfers in across four categories to compete.

By the end of the day Sunday Pauline McDougall, Arlene Segin, Rene Hanchur, and Cory Selander were named champions of their respective categories.

McDougall took top spot in the championship flight in the ladies category, 12 strokes ahead of second place, who happened to be Segin, the senior champion. McDougal had the lead after one day with an opening round 83, and improved on that with a Sunday 78. Segin took top spot with scores of 84 and 89.

Selander was able to outrun the competition in the men’s championship flight, finishing with a tidy three-over-par through two rounds. He followed a 72 on Saturday with a 73 on Sunday, keeping him 11 strokes ahead of second-place Martin Ring. It was tight after day one, with both Ring and Dave Patola just one stroke back. Selander kept up the pace on day two, while Ring and Patola fell off with an 83 and 86, respectively.

In the most tightly contested category, Hanchur held on to beat Ron Stewart by one stroke for the senior men’s championship. Hanchur shot a 76 on day one and an 80 on day two, while Stewart posted a Saturday 81 and a Sunday 76 to chase Hanchur all the way. Leo McDougall was the next closest, finishing four strokes behind Hanchur.
