The Skene brothers were keen for points at the 2020 Lakeland Ford High School Rodeo this past Saturday and Sunday at the Red River Riding and Roping Arena.

Chase Skene got the top spot in the junior high boys bareback and was tied for the high point in goat tying. He also finished third overall among junior high boys.

His older brother Tanner Skene finished first in the high school boys bull riding, with a 72 score on day one and a 70 on day two. Tanner finished sixth overall.

On the junior girls side, Haddison Gaudry from Domremy finished in second place in the overall standings, just three points behind Hoosier’s Alyssa Maffenbeier for the top spot. Gaudry finished first in pole bending, third in goat tying, and sixth place in the barrel race.

Larry Henry, the 4R’s rodeo president, said the club was close to closing the gates to spectators on Saturday due to how well attended the event was. The crowd was close to eclipsing the 150-person cap that was in place to follow COVID-19 guidelines. Numbers were nearing the 140 mark during peak times on Saturday.

The club is also having their annual general meeting on the 15th, 7 p.m. for club members. A maximum of 30 people can attend the meeting, to ensure everybody can physically distance.

The club is also looking to raise some money to replace its old skid steer.
