Prince Albert to see more fall-type weather but avoid frost for now

Aug 31, 2020 | 4:51 PM

After some of the province experienced frost overnight as August ends the Prince Albert area was safe reaching only a low of 8.4 Celsius in the early hours this morning.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada Terri Lang told paNOW most of the frost was in the less cloudy and windy areas.

“It was just a touch of frost, we didn’t see any big drops of below the freezing mark,” she said, adding Kindersley dropped to – 1.1 C and Rosetown was down to – 1.3 C.

She explained the rest of the week P.A. should continue to be above zero.

“We don’t have that weather pattern that promotes these bouts of frost, which is usually a high-pressure area, clear sky and no wind,” Lang said. “What we are seeing over the next week is a progression of weather systems moving through so there’s going to be quite a bit of wind.”

Lang said they will keep an eye on the weeks to come but added the weather has turned into a more fall season pattern.

“You’ll notice the really warm air and stuff like that — it’s kind of disappeared but not looking for any widespread frost quite yet,” she said.

According to the environment Canada website, Prince Albert will see highs of 17 C on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be 18 C and 20 C. There is a chance of showers over next weekend with highs of 18 C and 13 C.
