Police respond to reckless driving complaints at Art Hauser Centre

Despite the lack of action so far this year inside the Art Hauser Centre due to COVID-19, it appears the empty parking lot has proved too enticing for those people with a need for speed.

On Wednesday night, members of the Prince Albert Police Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS) section issued 10 charges under the Traffic Safety Act during targeted patrols around the facility. Seven of the charges were for stunting and excessive noise.

“The patrols were in response to recent complaints from the public about noise and safety concerns in the area,” a statement from police said.

Ward 6 Councillor Blake Edwards told paNOW he was aware of the situation.

“There’s been stunting going on for a long time this summer and the Art Hauser parking lot is full of black marks. It’s unfortunate,” he said.

While police have not said what age the drivers were that were fined, Edwards explained it’s youth who have nowhere else to go.

“There’s not any residents that are going to complain about hose kids hanging out there but when you start stunting and its going from 9 p.m. at night until 1 a.m., the residents are going to complain and the police are going to respond,” Edwards said.

The police service has indicated officers will continue to patrol the area as part of ongoing traffic safety enforcement initiatives around the community.
