UPDATE: The Saskatchewan RCMP have reported Sunday evening Richard Flett was found and is in police custody. He was arrested by the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South with assistance from the Nipawin RCMP.

Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South put out an arrest warrant for Richard Flett on Sunday, Aug. 23, after charging the 21-year-old with second-degree murder.

The charge and warrant come after 24-year-old Brett McKay was found stabbed and declared deceased at a Red Earth Cree Nation home around 5:45 a.m. on Aug. 21. RCMP discovered during their initial investigation that McKay was at a large social gathering, referred to as “the reservoir” at the Red Earth Cree Nation. He was later driven to a house while injured that same morning.

Flett is described as an Indigenous young man of slender build. He is approximately 6-0 and weighs approximately 160 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Flett is considered dangerous and police encourage the public not to approach him.

Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Richard Flett is asked to call Carrot River RCMP at 306-768-1200 or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
