RCMP searching for 23-year-old man at Bittern Lake

Aug 17, 2020 | 2:27 PM

The Montreal Lake RCMP are searching for a missing boater on Bittern Lake.

According to a media release, on Saturday at 3 p.m. officers responded to the lake along with Lakeland Fire and Rescue after learning a man jumped out of a boat to rescue a female passenger who was knocked overboard by a wave. The man did not resurface but the woman did.

The boat was carrying eight passengers on Bittern Lake. After the incident, the boat took on water, so passengers swam to shore.

Police say they immediately began to work on locating the individual by boat and on land. Since the incident the search has been ongoing. Members of the search party include local RCMP, the Prince Albert Grand Council, community members, as well as family and friends.

STARS Air Ambulance and CASARA both flew over the water and the Saskatchewan RCMP Underwater Recovery Team also joined in the search yesterday.

Today the Grandmother’s Bay Recovery Team will search the water with its remote-operated vehicle.
