Medicine Hat Fire Service urges river safety

Medicine Hat AB- The Medicine Hat Fire Service is stressing the importance of river safety as more people look to head to the river to cool off this weekend.

Since last Friday, Seven people have drowned province-wide. It also marks two weeks since the tragic drowning death of a 31-year-old Medicine Hat man in the South Saskatchewan River.

Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Chad Eakins says while the flow rate remains low, the risk of drowning remains.

He recommends the use of life jackets for everyone on the water and recommends knowing the conditions before taking a dip
