RCMP seize firearms and weapons following traffic stop

On August 9 around 3 p.m., officers from the RCMP’s Provincial Crime Reduction Team conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle turning onto a dirt road near Shellbrook.

During the vehicle stop, a licence and registration check evolved into a firearms and weapons possession investigation.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of two modified firearms, bear spray and several knives. In addition, officers located drug paraphernalia and ammunition.

The three occupants of the vehicle were arrested as a result of the investigation.

Alphonse Durocher, a 36-year-old man from Beauval is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; possession of a prohibited firearm without authorization; possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle with firearm; failure to comply with a firearms prohibition; possession of ammunition while prohibited and failure to comply with an undertaking.

Summer Isbister, a 20-year-old female from the Shellbrook District, is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; possession of a prohibited firearm without authorization and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

The third individual, a 39-year-old male from Saskatoon, was issued a traffic ticket for driving without a licence.

Durocher has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on September 14.

Isbister was released and scheduled to appear in court in Shellbrook in November.
