RCMP arrest man after incident in Prince Albert National Park this morning

Aug 9, 2020 | 12:48 PM

A man was arrested after an incident that happened in Prince Albert National Park in the early hours this morning.

According to a media release, the Prince Albert and Waskesiu RCMP received numerous calls from people camping in the overflow campground in the park. The reports were the male was yelling and causing a disturbance to those in the campground. They were also told they heard loud noises that may have been gunshots or bear bangers.

When the Parks Canada Warden attended to the scene the male fled the scene in a vehicle and drove down the walking trail in the area.

Once the RCMP arrived the male drove right into the RCMP vehicle exiting the walking trail. The man then fled the scene on foot and ran into the bushes.

The campground was then evacuated and the campers in the overflow campground were told to pack up and leave. The police remained on scene to monitor the campground and look for the man.

Hours later just before 10 a.m. the police arrested the man in the overflow campground without incident.

Police continue to investigate and more information will be made available as they know more. The RCMP would like to thank all the campers for their cooperation during the incident.
