Sturgeon Lake road receiving long overdue makeover

Aug 6, 2020 | 5:00 PM

The words “Fix The Road” were scrawled by someone last year on a highway sign north of Prince Albert and it appears the province has listened.

A 17 kilometre stretch of Highway 355 west of Spruce Home is being worked on, and a spokesperson for the Ministry of Highways told paNOW he expects crews to be done by the end of August.

The project, valued at $9 million has been long sought after by residents who use the road daily, and is one of a number of resurfacing projects taking place across the province. While the highway project was announced last year, there was no timeline in place then.

In total, the provincial government has made a commitment to upgrade 445 km of Thin Membrane Surface (TMS) and rural highways in Saskatchewan this year.

“This investment will go a long way toward our government’s goal of improving 1,000 km of highways this year, and 10,000 km in 10 years as laid out by our growth plan,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Greg Ottenbreit said in a press release. “Strong investments like this will assure our transportation infrastructure can support our industry and exporters for generations to come.”

Among the other projects taking place is a section of Highway 255 south of Tobin Lake.
