Sinkhole opens on Central Avenue

A new sinkhole at the north end of Central Avenue is expected to be repaired by the end of the day.
Water and sewer manager Geoff Soderberg told paNOW it’s unclear what caused the road to cave in, but it’s likely due to a hole in the storm system below.
“If there’s a hole in that pipe, it would suck dirt in as the water runs and gradually get worse and worse until the hole forms on the top of the road,” he explained.
Soderberg said city crews will begin work on the sinkhole Thursday morning.
