Saskatchewan records 18th death from COVID-19

Saskatchewan has recorded its 18th death in relation to COVID-19.

The person was from the South, had tested positive for the virus, and was in their 90s.

The information was part of the latest daily provincial update.

There are 38 new cases of the virus in Saskatchewan today, bringing the provincial total to 1,306.

Of the new cases, 14 are in the province’s central region, 12 are in the North, six are in the South, five are in Saskatoon, and one is in the Far North region.

Of the 1,306 cases there are 304 considered active. A total of 984 people have recovered.

There are 14 people in hospital, with nine receiving inpatient care. There are three in Saskatoon, one in the central region, four in the South and one in Regina. Five patients are in the intensive care unit with three in Saskatoon and two in Regina.

Of the province’s total cases, 202 are travellers, 643 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 310 have no known exposures and 151 are under investigation by public health.

Across the province, 63 cases are health care workers (although not all sourced their infections from work), 348 cases are from the Far North, 276 from the South, 244 are from the Saskatoon area, 192 are from the North, 154 are from the central region and 91 are from the Regina area. There are 208 cases involving people aged 19 and under.

There are 421 cases in the 20 to 39 age range, 412 are in the 40 to 59 age range; 219 in the 60 to 79 age range and 46 among people in the 80-plus age range.

Of the total amount of cases, 50 per cent are females and 50 per cent are males.

To date, 96,706 tests for the virus have been performed in the province. Yesterday 1,682 tests were performed. Testing is now available for anyone who requests it, regardless of whether they have symptoms.
