Shell Lake’s Fry right in the mix at women’s provincials

Jul 22, 2020 | 10:25 PM

Shell Lake’s Brooklin Fry may only be 15, but she’s already making a case for being the best in the province among all women.

After two days of the 102nd Saskatchewan Amateur Women’s Championship in Warman, Fry is just two shots back of Kathy Ziglo, the defending champion from Saskatoon.

Fry shot an even-par 72 on Wednesday, along with a 78 on Day 1, to find herself at 6-over-par and in a two-horse race with Ziglo. Ziglo is at +4 with only championship day Thursday remaining.

The closest golfer to Fry is fellow junior Autumn Neiszner, who is at +12.

Fry is coming off a junior provincial championship in Swift Current last week.

Men’s Amateurs

Ty Campbell is pulling away from the field with his second straight 67 at the 109th Saskatchewan Amateur Men’s tournament in Warman. Campbell is now -10 after the first two days of the event, five strokes ahead of Unity’s Justin Wood who sits in second. Prince Albert’s Danny Klughart is tied for seventh at -1. The third round will be on Thursday, with a champion to be crowned on Friday.
