Broadway North Youth camp returns

Jul 10, 2020 | 1:35 PM

Staff at the EA Rawlinson Centre say they’re pleased to be back to a degree of normalcy with the return of their popular summer youth camp set for August.

“It feels good that these kids who have missed out on so much stuff, you know the end of their school year, things like camps and family trips, at least we can have a version of a program that they’re probably familiar with,” Cara Stelmaschuk, marketing and event coordinator at the Rawlinson told paNOW.

Stelmaschuk explained the week-long Broadway North Summer Intensive program will look different this year. To ensure distancing and follow provincial guidelines for camps, class sizes are limited to 15 students. The junior class (ages 7-8) has also been cut.

“It’s too bad,” she said. “But they’ve still got so many years after that they can come back and take this program.”

Registration opened on Tuesday and spots are already filling up quickly. Stelmaschuk encouraged families who aren’t able to register to sign-up for the waitlist. Depending on demand, a second week may be added.

Meanwhile, the Rawlinson is working on potential further offerings for August.

“Our announcement will be coming out once we are clear to start offering some live entertainment,” Stelmaschuk said. “Whether it’s streamed or in person.”

As for renovations that began this spring, Stelmaschuk said they’re going well, and the Rawlinson is looking forward to showing off the lobby’s new look when work is complete later this summer.

While the Rawlinson has been closed to the public, there’s been a hum of activity inside. (Submitted/Cara Stelmaschuk)
