SHA warning of possible COVID-19 transmission in Lloydminster

The Saskatchewan Health Authority has issued an advisory saying a person who later tested positive for COVID-19 recently visited locations in Lloydminster when that individual likely was infectious.

In a release posted on its website, the SHA said the person visited Walmart, Superstore, the Good Knight Inn and the Superlodge motel in the city between June 27 and Sunday.

Anyone who was at those businesses between those dates is being told to immediately self-isolate if they have symptoms of COVID-19 and to call HealthLine 811 to set up a test.

Symptoms include a fever, chills, a cough, a headache, aches and pains, a sore throat, a runny nose, a loss of sense of taste or smell, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.

Meanwhile, the SHA also is advising people living in Prince Albert or those travelling to or from the city about an increase in COVID-19 cases in the city.

Because of that, visitation is being restricted at the Victoria Hospital and at long-term care homes, including Herb Bassett Home, Pineview Terrace and Mont St. Joseph Home.

Only family members or support people will be allowed to visit for compassionate reasons. No other visitors are allowed into the facilities. The restrictions are to remain in place until further notice.

Compassionate care reasons include end-of-life care, major surgery, intensive care/critical care or a care partner aiding in clinical care.

Family members and support people who can visit under those conditions must undergo health screening prior to entering the facility or home, including a temperature check and questionnaire.

“We acknowledge the importance of family support to those who are healing within our hospitals and residents of long-term care homes,” the SHA said in a release. “However, we are asking families and visitors for their co-operation in following these restrictions.”

The SHA reminded families and visitors that phone calls or virtual visits are other ways to connect with patients and residents.
