A 56-year-old man from Shellbrook is facing some serious charges in connection to a crash on a Manitoba highway last week that claimed two lives and injured 15 others.

James Randell has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, two counts of criminal negligence causing death, and three counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.

The crash happened last Thursday morning near Fannystelle, a small community 50 km west of Winnipeg.

RCMP said a semi truck failed to stop and drove into a lineup of stopped vehicles in a construction zone.

A seven-year-old girl and a 61-year-old man were killed. The girl was a passenger in one of the parked vehicles, and the man was driving a motorcycle.

According to an RCMP update Tuesday, a 22-year-old woman and a 14-year-old girl remain in hospital with serious injuries.

RCMP continue to investigate. The matter was scheduled to be discussed Wednesday in a Winnipeg courtroom.
