PAPS conduct one-day traffic safety blitz on distracted driving

Jun 30, 2020 | 1:01 PM

The Prince Albert Police Service issued 15 cell phone tickets in the city in a span of eight hours last Wednesday.

The one-day blitz was in concurrence with SGI’s June traffic safety spotlight.

Members of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan and the Prince Albert Police Traffic Services section issued the tickets to the drivers for using their cellphones while driving.

Earlier this year in February the distracted driving fines increased to $580 on first offence and four demerit points. The Prince Albert Police Service wants to remind the public it is illegal to hold, view or use a cellphone in anyway while operating a motor vehicle.

The police also issued other tickets during the one-day traffic safety blitz for other offences such as driving while disqualified, driving without a license, unregistered vehicle, speeding and disobey a red light.
