Wesmor staff hit the road to celebrate graduating students

Wesmor Public High School is celebrating the graduating class of 2020.

Wednesday afternoon teachers and staff set out in convoys to visit students at their homes. This year the school was hoping to see 70 students graduate. Teachers brought not only diplomas but also yard signs and gift bags.

One of the graduates teachers visited was Jenna Harris and her family. Harris met them while wearing her graduation dress.

“I just wanted them to all see it and I wanted to actually wear it on the big day,” Harris said.

School Principal Gina Sinoski handed Harris her diploma and also spoke to her about how proud her teachers were of her and what she accomplished. Harris said it was nice of school staff to put on a celebration like this.

“Its kind of different but it feels good that the school’s come around to do all that for us and make our day feel a lot more special than I thought it was going to be,” Harris said.

After high school Harris is looking at exploring possible careers as either an emergency medical technician or as a counsellor.

Sinoski said it was important for them to recognize students with the COVID-19 pandemic forcing the cancellation of regular ceremonies. She added it has been difficult for teachers to not be able to do the usual activities.

“It is also a way for staff to be able to congratulate them and send them on their way,” she said.

Before heading out from the school to meet students Sinoski said she expected students to be excited to see their teachers and get their diplomas.

“I expect this is one way that they know that we are proud of them and they can share this with their families,” Sinoski said.
