Libraries, galleries, museums, live theatres and movie theatres can reopen June 29

As of next Monday, residents in Saskatchewan can return to libraries, galleries, museums, live theatres and movie theatres as the province gave all the greenlight to reopen.

According to a media release, part two of phase four of the Re-Open Saskatchewan Plan will begin on June 29 as well as updates to guidelines.

Other activities that will be allowed to reopen in this part of the phase will be communicated over the next two weeks. These include indoor pools, indoor rinks, indoor sports and activities, bingo halls and casinos.

Premier Scott Moe said movie and event theatres must follow the same good cleaning practices as other businesses.

“Like places of worship, crowd size will continue to be limited to 30 per cent of capacity or 150 people total, whichever is less,” he said.

The province’s Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab also noted how important is to remain physically distanced, despite the reopening.

“Build that into our muscle memory, that even if we’re going to a friend’s house we need to help each other and have the layout so we maintain that two-meter separation,” he said.

Campground and parks update

As of this Friday, June 26, there will be an update to guidelines for parks and campgrounds. They will be open to 100 per cent capacity limited term campsites and overnight stays. Access to washroom and shower facilities will also be provided but there will be increased cleaning.

Outdoor sports

Some changes have also been made to outdoor sports and activities. If physical distancing can be done outdoor sports and activities can resume. If physical distancing cannot be maintained in certain sports such as high contact sports, then mini leagues should be formed to limit the potential spread.

Non-medical masks

Staff in restaurants, licensed establishments, fitness facilities and personal care services must wear a non-medical mask if they cannot keep a two-metre distance from customers.

Locker rooms, change rooms and showers

Locker rooms, shower facilities and change rooms can now open to certain businesses and activities, including gyms and fitness facilities, campgrounds, beaches, golf courses and facilities where outdoor sports and activities are played. Increased cleaning will be required. Change rooms in retail stores can move to 100 per cent capacity.
