City Hall reopens with new safety protocols in place

A steady stream of residents trickled in and out of city hall on Monday morning, with the building open to the public for the first time in three months.

Visitors were met by a commissionaire wearing a plastic face shield who checked their temperature before allowing them to proceed to the service counter. Hand sanitizer was also supplied.

In an interview on Friday, acting city manager Jody Boulet, told paNOW it was particularly important to have the facility open now with the property tax deadline approaching and the city having just switched to monthly utility billing.

With the building open again, regular bus passes which were sold at a reduced rate will return to their normal cost.

The provincial government subsidizes monthly bus passes for social service clients, who purchase them at city hall for $25.

When the building closed, administrators decided to sell all bus passes for the month of May at $25 because the various transit pass vendors around the city had no means of verifying who was or wasn’t a client of social services.

The return to regularly priced bus passes will help offset some of the transit revenue the city lost since the beginning of the pandemic.

City hall is open Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
