Buckland firefighter in the running for All-Star calendar

Jun 21, 2020 | 10:00 AM

A member of the Buckland Volunteer Fire Department is in the running for a special all-star version of the annual Saskatchewan Fire Fighters’ calendar.

Forest Bihun, 27, who appeared in the 2020 calendar, is now one of 20 people selected to possibly appear in next year’s calendar. Bihun told paNOW it was very humbling to be picked.

“I think it’s a really neat opportunity and I’m glad to be able to raise money again for the children’s hospital,” he said.

The money raised from the online voting and the future 2021 calendar sales, will help support the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon. The cause is one close to Bihun’s own heart. In the fall, he will be entering his fourth year of nursing.

“This past winter I did my rotation in obstetrics and pediatrics and it really helped me decide that’s the area I am going to want to work in,” he said, adding he would love to work at either Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert or the children’s hospital in Saskatoon.

At the end of a two week period, the 12 firefighters with the most online votes will be selected for the 2021 calendar. The voting has already started and wraps up on July 1.

Bihun joked one of the perks about this competition is that due to COVID-19, the calendar committee won’t require new photos, and will instead use unused photos from the previous photoshoot he did last year.

“The upside to that is that I don’t have to be working out and hitting the gym like I was last year,” he said. “I just have to do the promoting and try to get some votes.”
