Expanded recreation options

P.A. playgrounds, skatepark and basketball courts to open Friday

Jun 9, 2020 | 5:32 PM

Playgrounds, the Kinsmen Skateboard & BMX Park and several outdoor basketball courts in Prince Albert will reopen Friday.

The city made the announcement in a press release Tuesday, following word from the province earlier this week that playgrounds and outdoor amenities would be allowed to reopen Friday June 12.

Residents are reminded to comply with all public health orders while using the outdoor recreation sites, including maintaining two meters separation at all times, washing hands regularly and staying home if sick.

A number of new precautions aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19 have also been introduced and are outlined below:

Playgrounds

  • Avoid overcrowding, groups must not exceed the 30 person limit on outdoor gatherings
  • If the playground is busy, come back when it is not as busy, or use another play area

The Alfred Jenkins Field House Jumpstart Playground and the Lions Park Playground are both undergoing major renovations and will remain closed.

Kinsmen Skateboard & BMX Park

  • The skatepark will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily
  • The fence around the skateboard park will remain in place to allow the number of people within the park to be monitored to ensure it does not exceed 30 at one time
  • Parents that accompany their children must stay in their vehicles and people not using the skateboard park must stay clear of the area

Basketball Courts

The following courts will be open from dawn to dusk:

  • 3 x 3 basketball courts in the northwest corner of the Alfred Jenkins Field House (Due to the construction at the Jumpstart Playground, participants must enter the courts through the northwest gate off the Rotary Trail
  • Basketball courts at Midtown and Crescent Acres Community Clubs
