CN Rail set a record for grain shipments in May.

Executive Vice President Sean Finn said this is the third consecutive month for record movement of grain.

CN moved over 2.5 million tonnes of grain in May, exceeding the May 2014 record of 2.4 million.

He said CN has moved 23 million tonnes of western grain to market despite several setbacks, including a November strike and winter rail blockade.

Finn said CN is in a good position to move grain to market for the rest of the year.

The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) said it is disappointed by a court decision to pull the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) federal registrations for three dicamba products.

NCGA said farmers rely on EPA’s science-based process for developing appropriate and safe guidelines for the use of crop protection products.

NCGA urged the EPA to immediately appeal the ruling and obtain a stay of the court order.

The group said the decision to remove a weed control option, especially in the middle of the season, adds another challenge to an already difficult time and sets a concerning precedent.

The three dicamba products include Xtendimax, FeXapan, and Engenia.

Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) said the U.S. ruling does not impact the registration of these products in Canada.

The World Dairy Expo has been cancelled due to COVID-19.

The largest dairy event in North America was slated to be held Sept. 29 to Oct. 3 in Madison, Wisconsin.

General Manager Scott Bentley said after meeting with government and public health officials, it was determined holding the event this year was not feasible.

The show brings more than 60,000 people, including many Canadians, to Madison each fall.

The 2021 edition of the World Dairy Expo will be held Sept. 28 to Oct. 2.
