P.A. plastic bags ban suspended during pandemic

Jun 2, 2020 | 8:17 AM

Plastic bags have been granted a temporary reprieve by the City of Prince Albert.

On Monday night, city council voted unanimously to put enforcement of their bylaw banning plastic checkout bags on hold until after the provincial state of emergency is over.

Mayor Greg Dionne told the meeting he’d heard from residents, grocery stores and senior government that postponing the ban is the right move.

“In talking to quite a few residents that take in their own bags they are not allowed to bring them in, strictly because of handling and germs,” Dionne said. “It just makes sense.”
