P.A. Airport to get funds for improvements

Some government investment is coming to the Prince Albert Airport.

The province announced there will be $241,500 to improve Taxiway F edge lighting, pull-pits, and an information sign, along with work on Taxiway B which will involve the installation of a storm sewer and catch basins.

Minister of Highways and Infrastructure Greg Ottenbreit told paNOW investing in the Prince Albert facility is hugely important for the province.

“It’s a base for our firefighters for one thing but also it’s a gateway to the north,” he said. “When it comes to medical or the economy or whatever the case might be it’s an important artery through to the north.”

Ottenbreit said it was vital to keep Saskatchewan’s airports viable.

“It keeps those airplanes flying and as we know airlines are under a bit of stress right now, but we still have some charters, medevac, firefighting and essential services that have to operate.”

According to a media release, the Government of Saskatchewan is more than doubling its investment in the Community Airport Partnership (CAP) program in 2020-21.

The province will invest $1.5 million in improvements to 15 community airports around the province.

When combined with local matching dollars, this represents a $3 million investment in airport infrastructure.

The City of Prince Albert is hoping for bigger improvements to the facility in future.
