Line painting underway in P.A.

Spring road painting work is underway in the City of Prince Albert.

A contractor is dealing with street lines and municipal crews are handling crosswalks.

Public Works Director Wes Hicks said the contractor started working Thursday and expects the painting to be finished in a few days. He explained due to recent weather they are starting a bit later than usual.

“We were a week late due to all the rains last week,” he said.

Hicks said the contractor will be working during the day. Some of the roads that will be painted are the city’s main arterial roads, like 15th Street and collector roads such as 6th Avenue W. Hicks added drivers should try to avoid driving on recently painted lines.

“The paint is fairly fast drying, but it would be appreciated if residents don’t drive across the fresh painted lines because that does track,” he said.

Overall, Hicks said there is just over 100 kilometers of road lines to be painted in the city. He added they will be touched up again in the fall.

When it comes to crosswalks there are over 20 for schools, over 30 signal intersections and many others which need to be painted. Hicks said this year they have one less crew working than usual due to reduced staffing.

“It does take them the better part of the entire season, because as soon as they get to the end of the list they go back and touch up the ones that are starting to show wear,” he said.
