If you were looking to buy a former police car at the City of Prince Albert’s annual spring auction, you might be out of luck this year.

The city’s fleet manager told paNOW there are plenty of interesting items for sale this year, but very few police vehicles in the line-up.

“We put them all back into service to cope with this COVID-19 issue,” said fleet manager Robert Snowden. “So that there’s only one person per vehicle, those that were retired have actually been put back into service.”

The annual spring auction is the public’s opportunity to snap up used, obsolete and surplus vehicles and equipment from city departments including police and fire. Stolen property recovered by police, including bicycles, are also available.

This year will be the first time the auction will be held online. It’s being hosted by McDougall Auctions. The change was made accomodate restrictions in place to prevent transmission of COVID-19.

“It will be a learning curve for the public who are used to the social gathering that normally happens,” explained Snowden. “But as a whole, I think it will sort of open it up to people that would not normally show up to P.A. for an auction to be able to bid on our stuff.”

The date of the auction is set for June 17.
