A local rural municipality is prohibiting burning.

The RM of Bjorkdale said dry conditions in the area made it necessary to call for the fire ban.

Officials said the ban will remain in effect until there is substantial rainfall.

The Shand Agricultural Society has decided to cancel their fair this year.

Secretary-Treasurer Devra Dube-Ouellet said in a media release the group took into consideration the impact the pandemic has had on sponsors, families and individuals.

The Shand Fair will return in 2021.

A governmental review of grain industry legislation has been delayed.

The analysis of the Canada Grain Act was to be published in March but due to the COVID-19 pandemic the new deadline for the release of the final paper has not been determined.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada launched the review in March 2019 gathering feedback from grain industry stakeholders on ways to update the legislation.

Inspection of grain shipments and producer payment security are just two issues that could see changes through any new legislation.

DL Seeds in Manitoba has announced the registration of two new field pea varieties that will be part of a new project.

A Seed Variety Use Agreement allows plant breeders to set a royalty fee, on farm-saved seed.

DL Goldeye will be available in very small commercial amounts for 2020, but will have seed production contracts and commercial seed available for planting in spring of 2021 under the pilot program.

DL Delicious will be commercially available in the spring of 2021.
