Mixed curling to debut in next Saskatchewan Winter Games

May 24, 2020 | 11:23 AM

The 2022 Saskatchewan Winter Games will include a new curling event. For the first time, the mixed doubles game will be introduced.

In the last Saskatchewan Winter Games held in the Battlefords back in 2018, there were standard four-player teams in both the boys and girls divisions. The mixed doubles game has just two players on each team, one male and one female. One player shoots while the other skips.

Over the last number of years in Saskatchewan, the game has grown in popularity, especially at the provincial level.

“We worked very hard to present a strong case for inclusion of Mixed Doubles, and are so excited to learn our application was approved. Over the past number of seasons, our U18 Mixed Doubles Provincials has had strong participation and we have watched U18 competitors place well against our adult teams in Mixed Doubles provincials,” said CURLSASK Executive Director Ashley Howard in a statement. “The Saskatchewan Winter Games are a once in a lifetime championship and now more Saskatchewan curlers will have that experience.”
