Crews going to work on downtown street lights

The public may notice some extra activity in downtown Prince Albert.

SaskPower crews went to work Thursday morning on 13th Street E, just off of Central Ave. Scott McGregor, media relations consultant with SaskPower said they are working to replace underground infrastructure.

“We are just replacing some street light cable as well as working on some of the streetlights,” he said.

McGregor said the work is part of routine maintenance. In terms of a general timeline, McGregor wasn’t able to say when the work would be finished as every situation is different. He added with the current conditions keeping people at home, crews have been having an easier time doing their work.

“A number of businesses are closed, so it kind of gives our crews a bit more room to work, which is kind of silver lining in today’s weird time,” he said.

McGregor explained this kind of work is standard for this time of year. He said there is other maintenance work going on in P.A. and area. Some of this involves doing work on underground equipment and also inspecting and in some cases reinforcing wooden power poles. He added the company appreciates the public’s patients as they go about performing these tasks.

“There’s quite the gamete of work that’s being done up there,” he said.
