The Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division is losing a longtime administrator.

Randy Emmerson, the division’s superintendent of schools will be leaving in July to take up the position of director of education with Sun West School Division. The headquarters for the division is in Rosetown.

When Emmerson leaves it will mark the end of a long affiliation with Sask Rivers, which has seen Emmerson go from a student, to a teacher and an administrator. His three kids have also gone through the division from kindergarten to Grade 12.

“In total I am 34, 35 years being tied closely and that’s on many different levels,” he said.

Emmerson said he is looking forward to joining Sun West because of their overall philosophy and the fact the division is considered a leader in distance learning. He added the organization is looking to grow.

“They have an entrepreneurial spirit where they’re looking to form partnerships with as many diverse groups as they can,” he said.

One of Emmerson’s first priorities will be working to get to know the schools and communities, which is mainly rural and made up of 24 different schools in 18 communities.

He said in his current position he has been able to get to know many people through involvement in a range of activities from athletics to arts.

“I feel that within this community, there aren’t too many places I can go that I don’t know people,” he said.

P.A. will still be home for Emmerson as he will be commuting to work. He said when it comes to replacing him, he is confident Sask. Rivers will find someone who will be ready to step up and fill the role.

“I look forward to the direction that, that new person will step in and take the division,” he said.
