Woman escapes weapons charges, after co-accused takes the blame

May 1, 2020 | 8:00 AM

During a sentencing hearing Thursday at Prince Albert Provincial Court, a 21-year-old woman was informed by a judge she was getting a huge break.

Jordana Napope was one of two people charged following a weapons bust in the west flat in May, 2019. Among the weapons found at the residence were two sawed-off rifles, and numerous rounds of ammunition.

The federal crown has withdrawn Napope’s weapons charges, but Napope pled guilty and was sentenced on two charges related to breach of court orders. Napope, who has been in custody 59 days, was sentenced to time served.

“I can’t help but notice you are getting a huge break,” Judge Felicia Daunt told Napope. “I hope you take this and make some changes in your life.”

The reason why the more serious charges were withdrawn was not discussed in court, but Prosecutor Brent Slobodian later revealed to paNOW the reason was the co-accused Brandon Couillonneur took responsibility for the crime.

Couillonnneur has been scheduled to be sentenced on his matters June 29.
